Hi there, breakfast buddies, where are my porridge lovers? Put your hands up 😂! Are you ready for the ultimate feel-good breakfast? A breakfast that will change your morning forever. Well, you already know that I tend to exaggerate, but always with good intentions. This vegan porridge is an absolute heartfelt recommendation and worth every bite. Especially if you like coffee and chocolate, because I’m serving you mocha porridge today. Or to put it another way; coffee chocolate porridge. Vegan, heavenly creamy chocolatey, and with a dash of steaming coffee.
At some point 2 to 3 years ago, oatmeal experienced an image revaluation to the power of 1000. Thanks to social media. The otherwise dusty porridge has secretly become the star of the breakfast show. Oatmeal isn`t only on the menu of grandmas but has also found its way into hip restaurants and influencers’ bowls. In short, porridge is on everyone’s lips and is the go-to breakfast for many. And if it comes with a good portion of morning coffee and a load of serotonin in the form of chocolate, then everyone is guaranteed to be on board. Especially the coffee junkies, of course, 🤭.
Then let’s get the breakfast party started!
But before that, I would like to come out as an influenced victim. Because I didn’t even know porridge until my era as a food blogger and photographer. The only memory I have of porridge – before social media – is that the kids in the movie “The Daring Witch in Her Flying Bed” didn’t like it at all. Which I benevolently decided I didn’t like either, until I tried vegan porridge for the first time when I was about 32.
About the history of porridge and dancing goats
The history of porridge is long and illustrious. Porridge, as we like to enjoy it today, often corresponds to Scottish porridge. This is characterized by the fact that it is cooked until creamy by gently simmering and constantly stirring “clockwise”.
However, porridge was not always as hip as it is today. Until the 18th century, it was considered “poor people’s food”.
But it gets even better… Did you know that the history of coffee began with dancing goats? Legend has it that the stimulating effect of the caffeine in coffee was first discovered by a shepherd. His goats ate the coffee fruit and then jumped around all excited. They were also known as dancing goats.
That’s it with a bit of world history for today’s recipe…
What can I say about the ingredients for this coffee chocolate porridge recipe? Hmm, I could write half a novel about the ingredients and preparation. But let’s be honest, I think you’ll be able to cope wonderfully if I don’t bore you with any more long monologues.
Add the coffee, chocolate oat flakes, and plant-based milk to the pan and cook until creamy. That’s it, the weighed quantities – for the monks among you 😝 – can be found at the bottom of the recipe. It isn’t magic, as long as you don’t forget to stir. And very important: always clockwise 😂.
Tips and tricks for mocha porridge
To provide some bombastic entertainment, I will now extend the text with a few tips and tricks. But who knows, they might help one or two of you.
Okay, guys, I hope you can read the sarcasm dripping from my texts. Just to mention it again briefly at this point.
There are a few insider tips for a deliciously creamy coffee and chocolate porridge. Firstly, the choice of coffee. It’s not just about the caffeine kick in the morning, but also about the taste. Opt for a high-quality coffee. I chose Fairtrade-certified coffee beans from Onesto Coffee for this recipe and ground them myself using a coffee grinder. And no, the instant coffee stays in the cupboard for once!
To make it chocolaty, I not only used high-quality Fairtrade chocolate but also chocolate nut butter (now with apricot kernels) and porridge with chocolate. Because I think we can all agree that there can never be enough chocolate. So use it generously and as dark as possible to guarantee the Next Level.
Coffee chocolate porridge alternatives
You’re not a coffee lover and porridge with coffee makes your hair stand on end? Shame on you! What kind of weird people don’t like coffee? It is difficult for me to understand this, so forgive me for once.
But if this is indeed the case, you can simply replace the coffee with plant-based milk and leave it out. In other words, a coffee chocolate porridge without the coffee. If you prefer matcha, use matcha instead of coffee. And I also have these delicious apple and cinnamon overnight oats for you.
So here we go! Let yourself be enchanted by this vegan breakfast recipe. The mocha porridge is simply divine. Every single spoonful promises a true taste experience. This vegan porridge is true happiness in a bowl.
Bon appétit!
